Hi, I’m Katie
A therapist who believes you shouldn’t have to filter yourself to be understood.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor offering therapy to adults across Virginia, both virtually and in-person in Blacksburg.
I started my private practice to create something that felt more aligned, both for myself and for the people I work with. A space that’s grounded, human, and actually supportive of real life.
This work matters deeply to me. It’s not just what I do — it’s something I’ve built intentionally, with care, and with a lot of respect for the people who trust me with their stories.
What it’s like to work with me
My approach is collaborative, grounded, and honest.
I’m not here to sit silently and nod at you. I’m here to be present, engaged, and genuinely invested in helping you move forward in a way that feels meaningful and sustainable.
I aim to create a space where you feel safe enough to show up fully — without having to edit yourself or explain your identity.
In our sessions, we might:
get honest about what’s actually going on
explore patterns and relationships with curiosity
laugh a little (because sometimes that’s part of it)
build tools that actually work in your real life
A space that’s affirming, not just “accepting”
While I work with a wide range of concerns like anxiety, life transitions, and relationships, I also bring specific experience in:
LGBTQ+ affirming care
Non-monogamy and polyamory
Kink-affirming therapy
Sex and intimacy
You don’t have to teach me the basics or worry about being misunderstood. This is a space where those parts of your life are respected and supported.
Experience & Background
With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve worked with individuals navigating a wide range of challenges and life circumstances.
My work is rooted in trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and an understanding of how the nervous system impacts our thoughts, emotions, and relationships.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and offer both individual therapy and clinical supervision for residents in counseling.
Why I do this work
This practice is something I built with intention.
It allows me to continue doing meaningful work with clients while also creating a life that supports my family and my own well-being.
But more than that, it reflects how I believe therapy should actually feel.
I’m not interested in therapy that feels cold, scripted, or disconnected from real life. I believe it should feel human — grounded, honest, and genuinely supportive.
That means creating a space where you don’t have to filter yourself, perform, or fit into a specific mold to be understood.
In my work, I value:
-
You get to show up as you are — not a polished version of yourself.
-
Your identity, relationships, and experiences are respected and supported, not questioned or minimized.
-
Therapy should be real. We can be direct, curious, and thoughtful while still being compassionate.
-
Insight matters, but so does what you do with it. Our work focuses on changes that actually translate into your daily life.
-
This is your space. We work together, not from a place of hierarchy or judgment.
